Accessible Cash Till
Richmond Adult Community College approached us to develop the Accessible Cash Till, an easy-to-use cash register. They have students with learning disabilities, who often work in the college shop. They were having difficulty using a conventional till, and wanted something that would guide them through the sales process. The Accessible Cash Till is a piece of software that allows you to create sales, add or remove sale items, print a receipt and control the cash drawer – it works just the same as the average cash till. However, we have integrated it with The Grid 2, to provide an easy-to-use interface, for those with learning or physical difficulties. Just as with all other grids sets within The Grid 2, it can be accessed with a range of methods including mouse, touch screen, switches and eyegaze. The Accessible Cash Till comes with ready made grids for immediate access, although the grids can also be customised for individuals. For example, someone may prefer to have spoken instructions as a reminder. The list of items for sale can also be easily changed to include new items or to delete items. We also supplied them with all the hardware, including a cash drawer and a dedicated receipt printer. These were controlled through our software, so the opening of the cash drawer and the printing happened automatically at the appropriate time.
