Grid Sets
Grid sets are pre-made collections of grids, usually designed for communication. There are a number of free grid sets included with The Grid 2, and also some other grid sets available to purchase. Most grid sets are available with Widgit or PCS symbols. However, the grid sets Starting Blocks and Talk Together are only available with PCS symbols which is an add-on for The Grid 2, and must also be purchased. Currently, the grid sets Talkative and Seashell are available with Widgit symbols only. You can download our grid sets booklet as a pdf: You can read more about the grid sets online: You can also download grids made by other Grid 2 users (and Sensory Software): Why use a pre-stored vocabulary? A commonly asked question is "why use a pre-stored vocabulary? I can create a uniquely personalised vocabulary!" Sally Millar and Janet Larcher, authors of CALLtalk, provided this response: "Yes, but... starting from scratch, it can take many months of work. Few of us have that amount of ‘spare’ time... and the AAC user has to wait meanwhile... "Also it’s sometimes easier to alter existing pages than to start with a ‘blank slate’. So why not start with a vocabulary that somebody else has created, and then use the time you’ve saved to ‘personalise’ it - involving the user if possible - and to get on with the important jobs of teaching, parenting, delivering therapy? "NB. It’s easier to alter vocabulary content than scan patterns, structure or layout, so it’s important to get the right starting point... there are a number of vocabularies to choose from."
